There are many unions and individuals that create plans in order to create a better environment and atmosphere for the employees of sweatshops. These groups that are designed to create improvement in the world are called NGO's (non-governmental organizations). NGO's protest, petition, have a plan to help the world improve day-to-day. There are many unions to get involved with such as the Sweatshop Watch, the Human Rights Watch, the National Labor Committee, and the United Students Against Sweatshops.
The USAS (United Students Against Sweatshops) is an organization of University students who petition and protest Wage Rights and Human Rights in America and across seas. This organization is successful because they have many participants but also because they attack different issues at different angles. In the year 2011, they completed a total of 11 plans that were successful. Participating in a small practice like this is important because each set of hands is essential in order to make change in the world.
However, attempting to ban sweatshops is not ideal because many jobs would be lost. We do not want to take away the jobs of workers, we want to insure the safety and security of these workers. Therefore, protesting and petitioning for rights, such as a minimum wage, is a better option. The issue is separating the movements that are trying to ban sweatshops verses the movements trying to improve the conditions of sweatshops.
